Techniques being the geek I am, I have Windows 7, the proverbial shakedown cruise to see what would be cons at work when you start to get the new PC's.
I confess I did not expect much: my excitement of being shot down in flames by Deployment of Vista made me very skeptical about the direction of Microsoft and his vision when it comes to operating systems.
I've done both a clean install and install upgrade Vista to see how was the experience of each case.
Do not go into all the differences, improvements and adjustments are in the operating system, there are many websites where you get this information. Instead, I focus on the installation experience, and the first "outside the box" experience.
THE Clean install
The clean install of Windows 7 was undoubtedly the easiest install I have had with a Microsoft product, and clearly played on the Apple look how to streamline the way all aspects of their products. A new installation of Windows 7 is just as easy as a new installing OS X on a Mac, and was completed well within half an hour.
Excellent!
Installation Upgrade
The installation of the update was much longer: approximately 3.5 hours.
I had bad experiences of renovation in the past, and prefer Installing a new operating system not made by the vagaries of the previous operating system. In this spirit, what are the steps I took to update my Vista machine to Windows 7.
I ran the Windows Upgrade Advisor to see if there was any problem or conflict.
Since upgrade my PC was only one year, the only problem was reported McAfee AntiVirus 8.5i is incompatible with Windows 7. It was not really a surprise for me – I had been looking at different antivirus solutions – so I uninstalled.
He did a general cleaning with CCleaner.
If you do not have this free utility very useful on the computer, Get it now! CCleaner (allegedly for "Crap Cleaner) is a small tool that does three things: remove unused temporary files, clean all registry entries invalid, and you can manage programs that start at the bottom when Starting Windows.
The implementation of these measures before an update is a good idea because that the new operating system transfers all your settings the system files and old.
Garbage strike will only make it more difficult any updates.
At best, you do the update to take longer.
At worst, the installation may fail.
After have cleaned the files and the registry, looked through the programs started with Windows and found a few that really need to have running (iTunes service, etc.) and the disabled.
Reboot and everything has worked well.
Just a precaution to something sure does not need me!
Running Disk Defragmenter in Vista
This step is not likely be necessary, in all honesty. I have always done in the past, before performing an upgrade, making it a habit for me.
However, I ~ ~ I think that Windows 7 looks like days differently: instead of simply writing about the old system operating system files with new, makes copies of files, folders and settings from a protected area, is a new installation, then ~ ~ Import your data Relief in the operating system.
(If I am wrong on this detail, please let me know!)
Re-boot was then updated Windows 7.
After answering a few questions first, Windows will work. Obviously, the more elements on your computer, the longer this process takes. I have heard reports of anything from 1 hour to 8 hours for an update.
If your computer is not a new squeaky-clean install of Windows Vista with nothing but one area on the cancellation of the computer for a few hours.
Windows 7 OUT-OF-THE-Box Experience
I am very impressed! If you've used for the interface Vista, then there really is not much new Visual Windows 7. However, he feels like it took Vista, streamlined and stripped all the swelling and grease out of it, and what we have is a lighter, faster and more intuitive interface.
There were a couple of elements which surprised me … The famous "Windows Mail", which was part of Vista is gone. If you use Windows Mail, the upgrade will save all emails and contacts and import them into Outlook.
Windows Movie Maker … disappeared.
Windows Photo Gallery … disappeared.
If the execution Windows Ultimate Extra and Dreamscapes use for a desktop animation … Kiss It Goodbye.
Some of these applications have been widely publicized, there is not even 2 years, as Microsoft tries to stop the approach of Apple to include everything the average user need right out of the box. Windows has a longstanding reputation, including: the purchase of equipment was the easy part, and spending in the coming days, purchasing and installing all the hardware you need to use ~ ~ The PC was the hardest part.
So why Microsoft decided to reverse the marketing decision is an interesting question. However, at the end of the day, so I'll spend my hard – earned an operating system, I prefer having a slim and elegant OS to install some applications (like ~ ~ I choose) swelling containing applications that you may not need.
Fortunately, most of these applications are excluded are available through Windows Live Essentials and can be installed after the upgrade.
Both the installation of the new and Updates as well. There was no request whim, slow, or broken during installation update.
In Final … Thumbs up, Microsoft! This a system operating well. The PC is finally ~ ~ almost as fun and easy to use as a Mac!
