When you start a task on a computer and you have time to go for a coffee break, or Have a nice chat at the water cooler before obtaining an answer, you know that your computer is too slow. Having a computer with a time of significant response may be really irritating, not to mention the resulting loss productivity.
There are some simple steps you can take yourself to try to resolve the problem before seeking a computer technician.
1. Fragmented hard drive – A disk that has not been defragmented for a long period can make data recovery really slow and is a major cause contributing to a slow computer. Running a defragmentation utility disk should fix this problem.
2. Bloated Registry files – If you're not used to scan your registry files because of differences related to programs installed / removed, the size of the registry can grow. As the registry entries are periodically checked, it will help May to slow your computer. Scan the registry and remove the inconsistencies that should handle that.
3. Too many programs – Your computer may have many programs that are automatically invoked at startup even if you do not plan to use them. Click the Start button and select Run. Type msconfig in the window that appears. Uncheck all programs that you do not start tab. This will avoid unnecessary programs from running next time you start.
4. Too many services – When your computer starts, the services required by the operating system and installed programs are started. Often, the services used for programs that were uninstalled are also available as well as services that are not essential for you. These services can contribute to the slowdown and may be removed by using the Services tab after invoking the msconfig utility.
5. Virus – Viruses, Trojans, spyware and adware can be another major cause of slowdown. A good anti-virus and spyware checker can solve this problem.
6. Increase the RAM – not enough RAM can sometimes be the cause of slow computers, so make sure you have at least 512 MB – 1GB of RAM installed. This is particularly true for games.
