Computer slowness may be caused by a variety of issues, which can be
classified into 2 categories: hardware or software. Equipment computers are
physical parts of the computer system, such as the motherboard, processor, RAM, etc.
Computer software are all programs and applications that are installed on
your PC. Software includes the operating system like Microsoft Windows XP or
Vista and all applications such as Microsoft Office, Photoshop, etc.
Viruses, spyware and malware are software as well.
Things to check:
* Startup Programs
* Virus and Spyware Search
* Hard disk out of space
* Hard drive fragmented
* Bad sector or corrupted files
* Overheating due to dust
The most common reasons for slow applications computer is being useless
in the background. When new programs and
applications are installed many times, they will be configured to start
automatically when your computer starts.
These applications are not always necessary, and take some of your computer's memory (RAM) which in turn slow your computer down. To verify that the applications start automatically, click the Start button, then click on Run, then type msconfig and click OK. Once the system configuration utility is open, click the Startup tab.
In the Startup tab, you can select the programs you want to start.
Deselecting one of the programs in the Startup tab will not remove them from
your computer, it will only prevent them from starting automatically every hour
you turn on the PC. I recommend unchecking all the applications you
do not need. If you see a program you do not recognize that it could be an indication
virus spyware.
If your computer is running slow and you are
getting a lot of popups, even when not using the computer, your
computer is probably infected by a virus or spyware. Everyone should
have antivirus software installed, updated and running at all times. There

and files. Delete any temporary files, temporary Internet files and cookies,

fragmented. Fragmented files take much longer for your system to open or record.
To start the defrag utility
Click on Start then Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disc

can take anywhere from approximately 5 minutes for a couple of hours, and sometimes needs
to be repeated. I recommend defragmenting the hard drive of computer about once a
months.
Another cause of slow computer could be a
file system corrupt or bad sector on the hard disk. Bad sectors can
corruption of system files that can slow your PC, or even prevent it from running.
To verify and correct bad sectors run the scan disk (chkdsk) utility.
Make sure the computer is not overheating or running very hot. Most
computer allow air to flow through the computer, which is great for cooling, but
also causes lots of dust accumulate inside the computer case. Dust
cause airflow poor and could overheat your PC. Open the case of
PC and blow all the dust with compressed air.
